"Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and Determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "Press On", has solved and will always solve the problems of the human race."
-Calvin Coolidge (1932)

"There are no little events in life, those we think of no consequence may be full of fate, and it is at our own risk if we neglect the acquaintances and opportunities that seem to be casually offered, and of small importance."

"A man of genius makes no mistakes. His errors are volitional and are the portal of discovery."''
- James Joyce: Ulysses (1922)
Although Revenant is a born leader, he is often reluctant to allow himself to be tied down by the responsibilities inherent in such a position. Victor is a loner by nature, preferring to spend his days in seclusion and silence rather than basking in camaraderie and fellowship. Revenant typically considers social gatherings to be a waste of time at best, and a dangerous distraction at worst. As a result, he does not maintain a secret identity like many of his peers in the hero community. Instead, he has chosen to immerse himself completely within the identity of Revenant, effectively eliminating all traces that Victor James Crucifist ever existed.

"All Rationals are good at planning operations, but Masterminds are head and shoulders above all the rest in contingency planning. Complex operations involve many steps or stages, one following another in a necessary progression, and Masterminds are naturally able to grasp how each one leads to the next, and to prepare alternatives for difficulties that are likely to arise any step of the way. Trying to anticipate every contingency, Masterminds never set off on their current project without a Plan A firmly in mind, but they are always prepared to switch to Plan B or C or D if need be.
Masterminds are rare, comprising no more than, say, one percent of the population, and they are rarely encountered outside their office, factory, school, or laboratory. Although they are highly capable leaders, Masterminds are not at all eager to take command, preferring to stay in the background until others demonstrate their inability to lead. Once they take charge, however, they are thoroughgoing pragmatists. Masterminds are certain that efficiency is indispensable in a well-run organization, and if they encounter inefficiency-any waste of human and material resources-they are quick to realign operations and reassign personnel. Masterminds do not feel bound by established rules and procedures, and traditional authority does not impress them, nor do slogans or catchwords. Only ideas that make sense to them are adopted; those that don't, aren't, no matter who thought of them. Remember, their aim is always maximum efficiency."
In their careers, Masterminds usually rise to positions of responsibility, for they work long and hard and are dedicated in their pursuit of goals, sparing neither their own time and effort nor that of their colleagues and employees. Problem-solving is highly stimulating to Masterminds, who love responding to tangled systems that require careful sorting out. Ordinarily, they verbalize the positive and avoid comments of a negative nature; they are more interested in moving an organization forward than dwelling on mistakes of the past.
Masterminds tend to be much more definite and self-confident than other Rationals, having usually developed a very strong will. Decisions come easily to them; in fact, they can hardly rest until they have things settled and decided. But before they decide anything, they must do the research. Masterminds are highly theoretical, but they insist on looking at all available data before they embrace an idea, and they are suspicious of any statement that is based on shoddy research, or that is not checked against reality."

"Mediocrity knows nothing higher than itself, but talent instantly recognizes genius."
- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle: The Valley of Fear (1915)
Revenant does not possess any metahuman abilities. For all intents and purposes, he is only a "normal" man, and is subject to the shortcomings and limitations
imposed by flesh and blood. He has, however, undergone rigorous training in order to elevate his mind and body to their peak, making him a paragon of human achievement.
Armed and Unarmed Combat: Revenant has mastered multiple forms of armed and unarmed combat, including Jeet Kune Do, Akido, Ju Jitsu, Judo, Kendo, Wing Chun, Boxing, Capoeira, Krav Maga, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Eskrima, and Moo Gi Gong. This vast knowledge of the martial arts, coupled with quick tactical thinking, makes Revenant one of the most dangerous fighters on Earth.
Precognition: Although Revenant is not a true telepath in the strictest sense of the word, his ability to rapidly assess the strengths and weaknesses of his opponents' fighting styles has often been misconstrued as a form of precognition. It is not uncommon for the Ghost of Gotham to accurately predict the exact outcome of a fight within the first few movements, down to a blow by blow analysis of the skirmish to come. However, this ability is somewhat limited by his all too human reflexes, and can be bypassed if his foe possesses sufficient intelligence and is capable of spontaneously shifting through a broad spectrum of fighting styles.
Indomitable Will: Victor's unwavering willpower fuels his crusade, allowing him to force his body to action after sustaining grievous injury, and providing strong resistance against mind control. He has demonstrated an uncanny mental fortitude, enduring in the face of countless torments and tragedies that would have driven lesser men insane.
Intellect: Victor is blessed with an impressive mental acuity, and ranks among the best and brightest minds that the world has to offer. He is a tactical genius, gifted with an analytical mind capable of rapidly forming complex plans and battle scenarios in a matter of seconds. He also displays an exceptional aptitude for deductive and inductive reasoning, allowing him to solve intricate puzzles and codes due to his ability to swiftly deconstruct their inner workings. This same ability makes him a gifted inventor and reverse engineer, proficient in the creation and modification of advanced technology.
Fitness: After years of conditioning his body, Victor has forged himself into a world class athlete and gymnast, making him incredibly flexible and nimble. Revenant's reflexes are lightning quick, and allow him to completely avoid rapidly moving projectiles at a distance, or even close range. His physical endurance borders on superhuman, and he has often displayed the ability to push his body beyond the brink of known human limitations in times of crisis.
Photographic Memory: In mere seconds, Revenant is able to imprint intricate documents, blueprints, designs, and images to his memory for later recollection. This allows him to recall events of note in startling vivid detail, and to mentally store vast archives of information rather than having to rely upon physical records.
